SHANNON CAMPBELL
– Labor for Lyons
A Strong Voice for Lyons. A Fresh Start for Tasmania.
Meet Shannon Campbell
I’m Shannon Campbell, your Labor candidate for Lyons in the 2025 state election.
I’m proud to call Lyons home—raising my family here, working alongside local businesses, and standing up for our communities across the region. I know what matters to us: secure jobs, affordable homes, quality health care, and a future our young people can believe in. With Lyons on a razor-thin margin, every vote counts. I’m running to deliver real change and practical solutions for our region—not more empty promises.
My Priorities for Lyons
Labor is focused on what matters most to Tasmanians. As your candidate, I will champion four core priorities, as ones that matter most to our community.

Supporting Small Business and Local Jobs
Back small business: Labor will deliver targeted grants, cut red tape, and make it easier to hire apprentices and trainees.
Secure, well-paid jobs: We’ll invest in local infrastructure, support
Tasmanian manufacturing, and boost training for the next generation.
For our region: I’ll work with Chambers of Commerce and community groups
to create more local jobs and help businesses grow.
“As a small business owner myself, I know how true the sentiment is that SMEs are
the backbone of Tasmania’s way of life. They not only drive our economy, but they
fundamentally support our families and communities to thrive. This is why I am 100
per cent committed to backing Tasmania’s small business to regrow confidence and
investment in this vital sector.”

Strengthening Health Services
End the health crisis: Labor will restore funding to our hospitals, cut emergency wait times, and invest in more in healthcare workers.
For Lyons: I’ll push for better health services in our towns, and real support for our frontline workers – a key action is ensuring the delivery of the promised Urgent Care Centre for Sorell.
“I intimately know the impact that an underfunded healthcare system has on
Tasmanian families. Tasmanians deserve better. This is why I will fight for a modern,
properly resourced and functioning health system that puts people first – at all stages
of their healthcare journey.”

Investing in our Youth
Great schools for every child: Labor will deliver more teachers, smaller
class sizes, and better school facilities.
Pathways for young people: We’ll expand TAFE and skills training, and
create new youth employment programs.
For Lyons: I’ll champion more education resources for our local schools and
practical support for young people to stay and thrive here.

Fixing Housing Crisis
Deliver more affordable homes: Labor will address the housing crisis at its
source – by working with builders and planners, we will address planning law inefficiencies and unnecessary complexities.
Support renters and first-home buyers: We’ll introduce fairer rental laws,
expand grants, and make it easier for locals to buy their first home.
Local impact: I’ll fight for more housing projects in Lyons, especially in
growth corridors and towns where the need and potential for development is
greatest – including Sorell as the heart of the South East, as identified in the
recently extended Urban Growth Boundaries.

My Commitment to You
Grassroots engagement: I’ll be out in our communities every day—listening,
learning, and acting on your concerns. From door-knocking in Sorell to forums in New Norfolk, I want to hear from you.
Real action, not just talk: I’ll fight for practical solutions—whether it’s more
homes, better health care, or support for local business.
A Labor government for all: Our state desperately needs change –
Tasmanians deserve a government that puts people first, not politics.
I will fight every day to deliver the quality health care, affordable homes, and
essential services that every Tasmanian not only deserves, but urgently needs.
Statement on the Planning Application for NDIS Residence
I want to express my profound disappointment with the representations we’ve received regarding the planning application for a residence to house NDIS clients in our community.
It is disheartening to witness the hesitation and opposition towards an initiative that has the potential to enrich our community in so many ways. People with disabilities deserve a place where they can live comfortably, with easy access to the services they need and the peace of mind that comes with a supportive environment. Our town offers flat, paved areas that are perfect for individuals with mobility challenges, and it’s a location where they can thrive.
On a personal note, I have two sisters with disabilities, one of whom passed away in April. The loss is still fresh, and I often think about how much it would have meant to have a place like this for her here in Sorell. A home where she could have lived close to her family, surrounded by a community that values her presence.
My children have been incredibly enriched by their relationships with my sisters. They are kinder, more empathetic, and more understanding because of the time they’ve spent with them. Anyone who is scared or wary of people with disabilities simply hasn’t taken the time to truly get to know them. They are among the most beautiful souls you will ever meet.
I am the person I am today because of my sisters, and I firmly believe that integrating NDIS clients into our community would not only benefit them but also enrich the lives of everyone here. We have a chance to create a more inclusive, compassionate community. Let’s not let fear or ignorance stand in the way of that.
Thank you.
